Quite often when reading comments in blogs I see people saying that they want to learn the RV lifestyle. It seems like such a strange goal, somewhat akin to proclaiming that you want to learn the English lifestyle.
I think the most successful people, at adapting to living in motorhomes or boats. Are Read the rest of this entry »

By admin - Last updated: Saturday, October 10, 2009

By Mark R, Obtinaro

The main problem in the bus world is there is no good one size fits all bus. Regardless of which bus you choose it won’t do all things well.

There are basically four different kinds of buses with several variations in each kind. Read the rest of this entry »

The spiritual or psychological aspect

By admin - Last updated: Saturday, August 8, 2009

Randy, the writer of Mobile Kodgers makes some very astute observations about contemporary nomadic living. Here is a excerpt from his latest offering.

“Novelty and challenge are what bring happiness, and the traveling life is full of novelty and challenge. So it’s easier to feel fulfilled living this way. But it’s by no means guaranteed. Read the rest of this entry »

This is somewhat off topic for this blog, however Phil Bolger has designed some impressive liveaboard boats over the years, including “Resolution” which he lived aboard for a number of years.

Phil Bolger was arguably the most innovative and diverse boat designer in the 20th century Read the rest of this entry »

Update

By admin - Last updated: Thursday, February 12, 2009

Time seems to be flying since my last post. There are a couple of things slowing down posting. One is work. I work in a seasonal industry and we are heading into the busy period at the moment, which will last for about the next six months, so posting may be less frequent during that time, though I will try not to let it slip to much.

The other reason is that I have been slowly working on the web site. I have started a videos section which is mostly videos I am finding on Read the rest of this entry »

The Professional Nomad

By admin - Last updated: Thursday, February 5, 2009

Last night I saw Billy Connolly perform live. What a show! Billy has been my favorite comedian for years so I wasn’t about to miss an opportunity to see him live and I wasn’t disappointed. Having only had an hours sleep due to jet lag he still put on an energetic show. That is a sign of experience and dedication.

At first I thought about mentioning Billy’s show as an off topic post but then I realized Read the rest of this entry »

Mooring lines

By admin - Last updated: Monday, February 2, 2009

I have been somewhat occupied over the last couple of days, with mooring lines. I keep my boat on a pile mooring in town, which has a pile at each end of the boat, with mooring lines to each pile. We have a two metre (six foot, one fathom) tidal range, so the lines need to be set at a Read the rest of this entry »

The Nomadic Socialite

By admin - Last updated: Tuesday, January 27, 2009

A recent post on Mobile Kodgers discussed an interesting topic regarding the social behaviors of modern nomads. To be fair the post I am referring to re-inventing the tribe is specific to a group of about 600 people (Wandering Individuals Network) who live and travel around the U.S.A. in various types of motorhome. What this post does demonstrate though, Read the rest of this entry »

New Blog

By admin - Last updated: Sunday, January 25, 2009

I have created this new blog, to be hosted on the Nomadic Home server instead of Google. The old blog will be left where it is for now. In theory this WordPress blog should be more flexible than the blogspot one, but I can see that it will take a lot more learning before that is the case.

Stoves and Ovens

By admin - Last updated: Tuesday, January 20, 2009

There are a variety of stoves and ovens that are suitable for a nomadic home. I would avoid using electric ones, due to the expense of generating enough electricity to run them. So you will be looking at stoves/ovens that run on a combustable fuel. The following list gives some comparison of fuel types. Read the rest of this entry »

A First Home

By admin - Last updated: Friday, January 16, 2009

My work friend Terry has done something, which in modern society is probably considered unusual, but I think is actually quite far sighted. For his teenage son’s bedroom, he has bought an old house bus.
